Choosing your power:
A general guideline is 2 lbs of thrust per 100 lbs of total weight (boat, fuel, occupants, gear, etc.). If you frequently fish in strong currents or strong winds, add 10 lb of thrust.
Shaft length:
Measure from the top of the bow where the engine is mounted to the waterline. Then add about fifty centimetres (20') to this measurement. The ideal length of your shaft should be at least equal to the sum of these values.
